About Us

During the British Raj, separate localities were allotted to different communities. That was an accepted practice at that time. The Brahmins of the town were mostly living in the old town at Raja street, Telugu Brahmin Street, Thomas Street etc. The locality which is known as Ramnagar was not in existence.Representations were made to the collector of Coimbatore for acquiring lands and allotting the same to Brahmins who wanted to shift from places like Telugu Brahmin Street, Thomas Street, Raja Street etc. Some lands were acquired on the representation made to Collector and allotted to Brahmins and the locality was called ’Brahmin Extension’. The limits of Coimbatore town stopped with Avanashi Road on the south. Simultaneously, the portion which is now known as Kattoor was acquired and allotted to different communities. Those early residents of the Brahmin Extension were mostly patriotic. Some of them used to khadhi and some of them went to jail, fighting against the British Raj. That is why, the streets were named after national leaders and patriots like Ansari, Sengupta, Sarojini Naidu, Desabandu, Malavya etc., Since more number of Brahmins wanted to settle down here, facilities had to be improved in the locality.

A group of residents joined together and formed a body called, ‘Brahmin Extension Suburban Society’. They gave importance for the construction of a school at the first instance and started as a ‘Thinnai Pallikoodam’. This was in the year 1913. In 1915, this Brahmin Extension school was opened to the local suburban and the surrounding areas. At that time, 30 students studied in the elementary school and it had only one teacher. It had only a tiled roof with bamboo that is for walls. Due to administrative difficulties and financial constraints, the Brahmin Extension Elementary School was taken over by the society in 1916 A.D. In the same year, the suburban society was named and registered as ‘The Ramnagar Suburban Society’ and Sri.A.Ganapathy Iyer was the founder President and sri.K.M.Narayanan Iyer was the Secretary.

Sowed as single seed in the year 1913, now grown up as a giant banyan tree. Just because of the sincere efforts by the subsequent Presidents and Secretaries, these schools were able to achieve such an enormous development. It would appear as incomplete, if we didn’t mention about the prominent office bearers. To name a few,
